The Franciscan Healthcare Optometry Department offers a variety of services to provide you and your family with complete eye care. Whether it's an eye examination, contact lens fitting, treatment for eye infections or specialized vision testing, our eye care professionals offer friendly, personalized service.
Our Optometry services include primary eye care which consist of eye examinations, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and the following:
What happens during an eye exam?
An ophthalmologist or optometrist will perform a comprehensive eye examination. It will include evaluations and tests that can reveal a medical condition threatening to eyesight or general health.
Review of medical history: current symptoms, current general health, medication review (please bring all medications in their original containers to your appointment), allergies
Visual acuity testing: distance vision, near vision, refraction for glasses, dilation
External examination: this includes inspection of the cornea, eyelids and lashes, lacrimal system and evaluation of the pupils.
Slit Lamp Examination: a microscopic examination of the eye (both inside and outside of the eye) that detects lid infections, inner eye infection or cataracts
Eye Muscle Examination: This exam includes an evaluation of the muscle of the eye, detects eyes that do not work together properly or are misaligned.
Tonometry: a test to determine the pressure of the eye.
Ophthalmoscopy: an examination of the internal areas of the eye. It can detect glaucoma, high blood pressure, brain tumors and others.
