Mayo Clinic Health System in Faribault's Anticoagulation Clinic is utilized by patients with various conditions such as atrial fibrillation, artificial heart valves, history of serious blood clots, clotting disorders or placement of indwelling catheters or ports.
Anticoagulant medications help prevent the formation of blood clots by increasing the time it takes a blood clot to form. Once a patient begins this medication, such as the prescription drug Warfarin, also known by the brand name Coumadin, they need to have their blood analyzed frequently.
Patients meet with a Mayo Clinic Health System registered nurse for their anticoagulation therapy, which includes blood testing to monitor/adjust medication dosages and education of your medication as well as diet and exercise.
The Anticoagulation Clinic is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 - 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Hwy 60 location.
