Preparing for Orthopedic Surgery in Decorah
If your situation or injury requires surgery, you are in the right place. Our board-certified orthopedic surgeons in Decorah, Iowa, use the latest techniques and advanced technologies to provide a personalized surgical solution just for you. Our surgeons perform minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, which utilizes smaller incisions and video-imaging, for less pain and damage to connective tissues, and a faster recovery.
Surgical procedures we perform include:
- Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and other sports injuries
- Arthroscopic knee surgery
- Elbow repair
- Hand and wrist surgery
- Orthopedic trauma
- Reverse shoulder arthroplasty
- Rotator cuff repair
- Total hip, knee and shoulder replacements
Before surgery
Tell your surgeon about any medications or dietary supplements you take. If you regularly take aspirin or other blood-thinning medications, your doctor may ask you to stop taking these types of drugs for at least a week before surgery to reduce your risk of bleeding. Follow your doctor's instructions about when to stop eating, drinking and taking any other medication the night before your surgery.
During surgery
After surgery, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss rehabilitation. Our integrated practice enables you to receive coordinated rehabilitation treatment, including physical and occupational therapy and, in some cases, home health services. Our goal is to provide you a recovery plan that ensures a successful and smooth return to your daily activities.
