Frequently asked questions for new patients
Do I need to choose a primary care provider first?
Establishing a relationship with a primary care provider is an important step in managing your long-term health. Your primary care provider can get to know you, coordinate your care and connect you with specialists when needed. If you’re not ready to choose a provider yet, you still have options to get care when you need it.
Can I get care right away?
Yes. Primary Care On Demand offers 24/7 virtual care — with appointments often available in 30 minutes or less. You can connect with a Mayo Clinic provider from your computer or mobile device, wherever you are. This option is helpful for everyday health concerns like cold and flu symptoms, minor conditions, and more.
How do I access virtual care (Primary Care On Demand)?
You can start a virtual visit anytime through the Mayo Clinic app (App Store or Google Play) or by accessing Patient Online Services on your device. If you are new to Mayo Clinic Health System, our Care Concierge team will help you get set up quickly so you can access care. Call Care Concierge at 507-607-5858 and a team member will assist you.
Do I need a Mayo Clinic account before using virtual care?

If you don’t already have an account, our Care Concierge team can help you:

What do I need to schedule my first appointment?
When scheduling your first appointment, you may be asked to provide:
- Your full name and date of birth.
- Contact information.
- Insurance information.

If you have received care elsewhere, you may also be asked to transfer your health records so your care team has a complete picture of your health.
How does billing and insurance work?
