In my personal experience, receiving medical recommendations and subsequently treatment can be intimidating. Within obstetrics, this is often true and a first exposure to healthcare for many patients. Fortunately, and one of the reasons I really enjoy my work, is that it is usually possible to align medical decisions and patient goals in order to best honor the preferences and priorities of the patient.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and desired to become a physician while volunteering in an international health setting. During medical school, I decided to concentrate in women's health after appreciating its importance in my own family's development. After training, my family served as volunteers in West Africa where I focused on management of uterine fibroids, obstetric complications and gynecologic cancers. During this time, I received the opportunity to return to Mayo Clinic to pursue further concentration in women's surgical care.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, reading, language learning and sports activities with my family.
