Volunteers, 14 and older, work with paid staff to provide extra services and/or add to the quality of care. Most volunteers serve 2-4 hours a week. New volunteers complete an application, health screening, background check and orientation.
Openings vary throughout the year. Some of the service areas include:
DART (Dependable and Resourceful Transport): Volunteers assist in transporting patients, equipment and supplies in the Hospital. Shifts are Monday through Friday, 7:45am to Noon or Noon to 4pm. DART volunteers need to be physically able to push wheelchairs, do a lot of walking and communicate well with our patients and staff. Training will be provided.
Clinic Hospitality: Volunteers meet, greet and assist patients and visitors as they enter and use clinic services. Applicants must be able to transport patients in wheelchairs; be dependable; and able to communicate well with people.
Hospice: Once a year, hospice volunteers are trained to provide clerical, companionship and bereavement mailing services for patients and families facing terminal illnesses.
Hospital Positions: Teen, college and adult volunteers are utilized to staff the Gift Shoppe and Relative Waiting Rooms; provide clerical and delivery services; and escort and transport patients within our facility. Members of the Auxiliary organize and carry out a number of fundraisers annually; and offer nursing scholarships to students at Viterbo University and Western Technical College.
Senior Housing: Volunteers are involved in providing activities for seniors living in apartments or assisted living.
- TAGS (Teen Age Group Services) - TAGS are teens 14 years and older who volunteer in a variety of settings - senior housing, clerical assistance and errand/delivery service - during the summer. TAGS begin their service with a one-time orientation held in May.
- College students have the opportunity to gain experience and fulfill course requirements in their field of study.
- Contact the Student Coordinator online for more information about youth opportunities.
