RED WING, Minn. — Red Wing area residents who need to see a health care provider urgently will soon have a different option. Beginning Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing will change its Urgent Care department to a Same Day Clinic.
The Same Day Clinic is open seven days a week. Patients of all ages may schedule an appointment or walk-in Monday - Friday from Noon to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Patients using the Same Day Clinic will enter using the main entrance of the medical center and check-in at the main registration desk instead of using the Emergency Department entrance.
“If we’re not able to schedule a same day appointment for a patient with his or her primary care provider, or another primary care provider, then our Same Day Clinic may be a great option, especially on the weekends,” says Brian Whited, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City, and Red Wing. “We believe patients will have better access to care and an overall improved experience as a result of these changes.”\
Some conditions that may be treated in the Same Day Clinic include:
- Minor Sprains/Strains
- Acute Headache
- Splinter Removal
- Upper Respiratory
- Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea (72 hours or less)
- Stitch Removal
- Acute Eye Problems

Patients who need care outside of these hours and patients who have more complex issues will be directed to the Emergency Department.
