MANKATO, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato is partnering with Mankato Area Public Schools around wellness programming throughout the month of May to reinforce healthy habits in the classroom, at home and in the community.
For the first time, the wellness program aims to engage both students and staff, highlighted by Wellness Week and Staff Appreciation Week activities May 6-10.
During the student-centered portion of Wellness Week, each day will focus on a different healthy habit at all 10 elementary schools in the Mankato district. Wednesday is Walk, Bike or Move Day, which coincides with National Bike to School day on May 8, encouraging kids to get active.
Staff Appreciation activities will include a Wellness Calendar with challenges for each day in May, including trying a new vegetable, walking with friends and practicing yoga. The Wellness Calendar Challenge kicks off 5 p.m. May 1 with a walk/run on the Red Jacket Trail, starting at the West High School annex parking lot. The first 70 participants receive a free T-shirt.
Free fitness classes also are being offered to Mankato Area Public Schools and Mayo Clinic Health System employees now through May 9 at the Lincoln Community Center.
