CANNON FALLS, Minn. — It was one year ago when Jeffery Wheeler, M.D., a Family Medicine physician, was deployed on a peacekeeping mission to Sinai, Egypt along with members of the Mankato-based 2nd Battalion 135th Infantry Regiment. That mobilization was anticipated to last approximately six months but was extended to 12 months. On July 10, 2017, Dr. Wheeler will return to his medical practice and see clinic patients again at Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls.
“We are excited to have Dr. Wheeler resume caring for patients in Cannon Falls,” says Glenn Christian, Administration, who is the operations manager in Cannon Falls. “He and the members of his military unit have honorably served our country. We are very grateful for all of our military service men and women who answer the call of duty.”
Dr. Wheeler has been a member of the Minnesota National Guard for over 27 years. He previously served in a deployment to Iraq providing medical care to soldiers.
“It’s been a privilege to serve alongside my fellow soldiers to keep our nation safe and to fulfill an important mission in the Middle East,” says Dr. Wheeler. “But being so far away from family, friends, colleagues and my patients in Cannon Falls was indeed challenging. It is good to be home again.”
