CAMERON, Wis. — After careful review, Mayo Clinic Health System – Northland will close its Cameron clinic, effective Jan. 1, 2018.
“This decision was difficult to make, but it is necessary to help ensure quality health care is available for all of our patients and communities in our region,” says Michele Eberle, vice chair of Administration. “A low volume of patients and increasing challenges with reimbursement regulations and provider recruitment have made it difficult to sustain the practice.”
Eberle notes that 75 percent of patients seen at the Cameron clinic live outside the Cameron area. Fourty-two percent live in Barron, Chetek or Rice Lake, where other Mayo Clinic Health System clinics are located. Patients can continue to receive their care at any of these locations, which all are within 9 miles of Cameron.
Following the closure, the medical provider from the clinic will see patients in Barron.
Employees of the Cameron clinic will be able to continue to work at another Mayo Clinic Health System location.
“We will maintain our long history of supporting the Cameron community,” Eberle says. “We look forward to continuing to serve the medical care needs of the region, and we will work with our patients to ensure a smooth transition to one of our other locations.”
Cameron patients are encouraged to visit mayoclinichealthsystem.org to learn about nearby medical services, or call 715-537-6747 with any questions or to make an appointment.
