BELLE PLAINE, Minn. — Mayo Clinic Health System in Belle Plaine recently announced the arrival of a new pediatric physician to its clinic. Foram Mankodi, M.D., started seeing patients on July 13, where she provides a full spectrum of pediatric care.
“Combining pediatric services, along with the recent addition of OB-GYN services to Belle Plaine, is a natural extension for providing exceptional women’s and children’s health service to the community,” says Marty Herrmann, M.D., medical director of Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague. “Finding the right provider is an important step for families. Dr. Mankodi and the Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Department specialize in delivering the unique care children need from birth through late teens.”
Originally from India, Dr. Mankodi attended medical school at Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai and later completed residency at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dr. Mankodi credits her sister, also a physician, for introducing her to the world of medicine. “I knew from the age of five that I wanted to become a doctor,” says Dr. Mankodi. “I learned as I watched my sister interacting with people and it instilled the value of care in me.”
Beside general pediatrics, Dr. Mankodi also lists the care of premature newborn infants and children with asthma as special interests. “It’s wonderful to see kids become successful and mature individuals,” she says. “Having the opportunity to follow them from birth to adolescence and watch them grow into young adults is a rewarding experience.”
However, it’s a love for the pediatric specialty that continues to motivate Dr. Makodi in her daily life. “First and foremost, my job is to educate and guide parents and children to help them make informed decisions about their health,” she says. “But, I also get to have the most amazing conversations with my little patients. The theme could revolve around dinosaurs, cars or princesses, and that just brightens my day.”
