Preventive care is just as important as taking care of yourself when you’re sick. A well-woman checkup is a great opportunity for you and your OB/GYN provider to review your health, discuss preventive health steps, conduct screenings and address questions you may have related to women’s health.
What can you expect during a well-woman checkup?
Review of past medical, surgical, social and family history
Review of preventive services and ordering of appropriate tests, including:
Sexually transmitted disease screening
Bone density test
Vital signs assessment
Physical examination including breast and pelvic exam, if needed
Other health concerns may be addressed during the visit if there is time remaining. If there is not enough time for this, you may be asked by your provider to return for another visit to discuss the issue or to schedule an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss this further.
Certain medical conditions including, but not limited to, hypertension, diabetes and asthma are not typically addressed by our OB/GYN providers and should be addressed with your primary care provider.
