    Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment

Eau Claire has a Heart Failure Clinic staffed by trained heart failure experts including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. We work to maximize your heart failure medications, provide patient education, self-management skills and resources for long-term management of heart failure.

The Heart Failure Clinic complements the efforts of your primary physician, and we communicate our efforts to your physician. Proper medications, exercise and lifestyle changes lead to improved survival for heart failure.

    What is heart failure?

Heart failure is an increasing healthcare problem. It affects about five million people in the United States, and more than 500,000 people are newly diagnosed each year. Heart failure affects 10 out of every 1,000 people over the age of 65 in the U.S.

Heart failure does not mean the heart has stopped working. It is a complex problem in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to supply body demands for oxygen and circulation.

Symptoms include shortness of breath, heart palpitations, fatigue, fluid retention, loss of appetite and fatigue, just to name a few.

    What causes heart failure?

There are different kinds of heart failure and various reasons why it can occur.

Heart failure is caused by a wide range of conditions, including coronary artery disease, viral illnesses, alcoholism and other diseases. Many conditions that lead to heart failure cannot be reversed, but underlying causes of heart failure are treated when possible.
