The Medical Social Services Department at Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare is comprised of a team of diverse individuals who assist patients and families with issues related to their care.
The Medical Social Worker as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team assists the healthcare provider and other team members in understanding and addressing the significant social and emotional factors related to the provision of health services. To that end, our team vision is representative of what we collectively aspire to achieve for our patients, our team, and ourselves.
The department vision is to put the needs of the patient first and collaborate to improve the health of the individuals and communities we serve. In support of the our mission and vision, and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, the Medical Social Services Department, as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, practices quality, patient centered care.
Most clinic and hospital departments have dedicated social workers who are trained in the specific needs of each unit. Patients and family members within our facilities should speak to a nurse or physician in the department or hospital unit to access the appropriate social worker.
