Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire received the 2016 Greenhealth Emerald Award for demonstrating superior sustainability programs. Eau Claire also was recognized for its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of surgical procedures in operating rooms with a Greening the OR Initiative Award and earned recognition through the Circle of Excellence Award for water and energy reduction. Out of the approximately 700 applications, only 10 received the Circle of Excellence Award.
In 2015, 325,000 gallons of water were saved by reducing irrigated landscaping and smart irrigation of turfed areas; 289,650 kilowatt hours were saved through energy-related projects; and the Surgery Department implemented a blue wrap and plastic recycling program.
Practice Greenhealth is a national organization of member health care organizations working to increase efficiency and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge.
