ZUMBROTA, Minn. — Seanna Thompson, M.D., will bring her expertise in obstetrics and gynecology to Mayo Clinic Health System in Zumbrota starting Nov. 1. She will be working closely with local practicing providers, Eric Poulin, M.D. and Elizabeth Cozine, M.D., through an obstetrics (OB) shared care model to offer patients easy access to pre and postnatal care in Zumbrota as well as specialty gynecological services. Dr. Thompson currently sees patients at Mayo Clinic Health System’s Red Wing location and will be on-site in Zumbrota to see patients in the clinic every other Tuesday afternoon.
“We are excited to have Dr. Thompson join our team of clinical providers in Zumbrota,” says Tom Witt, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing. “Working collaboratively with our Zumbrota providers, her expertise on women’s health issues will help meet the needs of our patients. She will see patients independently and also serve as a specialty resource to share OB care if needed and support our primary care providers."
Dr. Thompson is a graduate of University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, New York. She has special interests in all areas of women’s health including prenatal care and delivery, family planning, infertility, hormone replacement therapy and gynecological procedures.
Dr. Thompson will work alongside Dr. Poulin and Dr. Cozine to deliver seamless care to patients. Women’s health services offered in Zumbrota include prenatal care, family planning, annual preventative visits, general gynecology, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence and management of heavy menstrual flow.
Through the shared care model, The BirthPlace at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing will be the designated birth center, however, medical staff will make arrangements if patients choose to give birth someplace else. As a designated birth center, Red Wing offers resources and specialized physicians who can provide advanced care when necessary.
