SPRINGFIELD, Minn. — Jessica Christenson, L.G.S.W., recently began providing behavioral health services at Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield. Christenson started in April 2016 and is now taking appointments. A licensed social worker, Christenson provides services that consist of an initial assessment and, if needed, subsequent therapy sessions (four to six total), each ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. Treatment for depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders and grief/loss are all available. Persistent cases will continue to be referred to community providers who are able to offer long-term therapeutic treatment.
“People in need can now pick up their phone and make an appointment with me,” says Christenson. “After an initial prescreen, I can assist each individual by creating a plan that works best for them and their needs.”
A graduate of the University of Saint Thomas/Saint Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, Christenson appreciates the support Mayo Clinic affords to providers who help support smaller community clinics. “I’m originally from southern Minnesota. Having the opportunity and training to serve Springfield and other surrounding rural communities is important to me.”
”We feel this is a big step toward helping further integrate behavioral health with our primary care services,” says Scott Thoreson, Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield site administrator. “Jessica’s presence at the Springfield clinic is going to help meet the needs of people close to home.”
Christenson’s special interests focus on anxiety and depressive disorders, adjustment disorders, adult and adolescent behavioral health, holistic care, and self-esteem empowerment.
