Mayo Clinic Health System today announced a collaborative effort with River Hills Mall to offer community wellness programs, health education and resources and family activities designed for all ages.
“This exciting collaboration helps bring Mayo Clinic knowledge and expertise into the community and directly to health care consumers,” says James Hebl, M.D., regional vice president for Mayo Clinic Health System Southwest Minnesota. “We want to be proactive and help people be well; in addition to being available when people are sick.”
Included in the collaboration is the Children’s Play Area, a Mayo Clinic Mile mall walking program and events throughout the year that promote health and wellness.
The Mayo Clinic Health System Children’s Play Area opened in June and is located outside of Scheels All Sports. Children can maneuver through soft, specialized play equipment that represents the medical field, including the Mayo One helicopter, an ambulance a thermometer and a stethoscope. Newsletters, brochures and other Mayo Clinic health resources are available near the entrance of the play area.
The mall walking program offers a convenient and safe walking area. Signs have been installed to help guide walkers through the Mayo Clinic Mile route.
Events will take place throughout the year at the mall to promote health and wellbeing. The Family Health and Wellness Event, which features a bike helmet sale and activities for kids takes place each May. Additional events are being planned.
