Dr. Watts specializes in the care of critically ill/injured neurosurgery and neurology patients, with a particular interest in neurotrauma. His surgical interests are in minimally invasive surgery of the spine including minimally invasive means of complex spinal instrumentation. Dr. Watts practices general neurosurgery and will treat patients with spinal, intracranial and peripheral nerve disease.
Prior to joining Mayo Clinic Health System, Dr. Watts was a staff neurosurgeon with the University of Minnesota Physicians. Dr. Watts earned his medical degree from the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb., and his doctorate degree in biophysical chemistry from the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minn. He completed his neurosurgery residency and critical care fellowship through the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, American Board of Surgeons – Division of Surgery Critical Care and the United Council of Neurological Subspecialties. Dr. Watts is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine
