FAIRMONT, Minn. — Three graduating seniors of Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont employees were each recently awarded $3,000 scholarships for the next four years — totaling $12,000 for each student — through the Mayo Clinic Dependent Scholarship plan. This is the first year Mayo Clinic Health System sites were eligible for the program.

- Jayden Koskovich, daughter of Carol Koskovich, Clinical Nutrition, and Bruce Koskovich, Nutrition Services Vending
- Jack Waletich, son of Janet Waletich, Laboratory
“We’re honored to have the ability to provide scholarships to children of our employees,” says Bob Bartingale, Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont administrator. “These three students have worked hard to position themselves to succeed in college, and Mayo Clinic is happy to provide a reward for their efforts, as well as help reduce some of the financial burden of a post-secondary degree.”
The scholarship plan stands as a reminder of the deep beliefs of the Mayo brothers in the opportunities for service of mankind from an organized program for advanced and continuing education. The plan opens the doors to educational opportunities for an added number of students.
Students eligible for the scholarships were those who are legal children of Mayo Clinic Health System employees with a full-time tenure of at least two continuous years. In addition, the students had to demonstrate good character, scholastic aptitude and a plan to attend an accredited college or university.
The Mayo Foundation Board of Trustees established the Mayo Foundation Scholarship Plan in October 1971 to provide educational scholarships to children of Mayo medical, administrative and allied health staff members who meet the plan’s qualifications.
