MENOMONIE, Wis. — In honor of the late David Eitrheim, M.D., beloved Mayo Clinic Health System family medicine physician, the inaugural Speedy Eity Run/Walk will be held Monday, July 4, at Wakanda Park, 909 Pine Ave. E., Menomonie.
Previously known as the Firecracker 5K/1-Mile Run/Walk, the Speedy Eity is hosted by Dr. Eitrheim’s family and friends, and co-sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System. Funds raised will be used for local community programs.
This year’s event includes 1-, 4- and 7-mile run/walks. The new 4- and 7-mile courses will follow the trail that goes over the Red Cedar River below the I-94 bridge. Participants can register for more than one event. The 7-mile registration begins at 7 a.m.; subsequent races follow. Go to active.com and search Speedy Eity to see the full schedule of events. A free Kids Fun Run, geared toward youth ages 10 and younger, will be held after the races.
Also new this year are fun activities for the entire family, including kubb and a live DJ, as well as a food booth.
Preregistration is $20 and is required to guarantee a race shirt. Race-day registration is available and costs $25; family rates also are available. The races will be chip timed.
Join the Speedy Eity event page on Facebook. Register for the event on active.com. Go to Menomonie's Classes & Events page at mayoclinichealthsystem.org for more information.
