LAKE CITY, Minn. — Deb Campbell, a registered nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System in Lake City, received the 2016 Dr. Stephen E. Dudley Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
The scholarship was established at Mayo Clinic Health System in Lake City in memory of Stephen E. Dudley, M.D., who served Lake City and surrounding communities until he died in a car accident in 1986. It’s awarded annually to an employee in Alma, Lake City, Plainview or Wabasha to advance their career in the medical setting.
While working full time, Campbell is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing through St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn. She returned to school to grow in her nursing career and plans to graduate in 2018.
"I want to better help the patients in the community. I love learning about them and their families – the relationships you make are priceless,” says Campbell.
Campbell says she is honored to receive the scholarship. “I did not know Dr. Dudley personally, but I have heard that he was a great doctor and the patients loved him. I hope I can represent him well.”
