RED WING, Minn. — On Tuesday, February 7, 2017 Rubin Raju, M.D., an obstetrics and gynecology physician, along with Carol Gardner, a physical therapist, and Nancy Olson, a registered dietician at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing, will offer a free information session called Caring for your bones. The presentation will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Garden View Café at the medical center in Red Wing.
Dr. Raju, Gardner and Olson will present practical and simple steps including lifestyle changes, rehabilitation and medical options to help patients care for their bones.
“Osteoporotic fractures can cause significant emotional, physical and economic stress. Prevention, early detection and treatment are key to managing this condition,” said Dr. Raju. “Prevention includes proper nutrition, exercise and even postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy. Early detection with age appropriate bone density screening and subsequent treatment of those at risk for fracture using medications along with the diet and exercise can prevent significant morbidity and mortality associated with the condition.”
