WAYCROSS, Ga. — New signs will be unveiled as the former Satilla Regional Medical Center continues its transition from Satilla to “Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross.” Earlier this year, Satilla Health Services, Inc., parent company of Satilla Regional Medical Center, joined the Jacksonville campus of Mayo Clinic. On May 1, hospital leaders will host a ceremony and reception to unveil the main new sign and to share thoughts with the community and employees about the latest evolution of the hospital. The unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner parking lot on Tebeau Street at 5 p.m.
“We want our patients to understand that Mayo Clinic Health System brings Mayo’s knowledge and expertise directly to them through the power of collaboration,” says Kenneth Calamia, M.D., chief executive officer at Mayo Clinic Health System’s location in Waycross. “These new signs are a visible reminder of Mayo Clinic’s presence in the community.”
The hospital’s integration with Mayo Clinic means health care consumers in Waycross have access to all of the knowledge and expertise of Mayo Clinic right in their own community.
The hospital and Mayo Clinic have identified common goals and philosophies, such as preserving and enhancing health care services to patients in the greater Waycross region. Both organizations are committed to patients receiving most of their health care services in Waycross.
The hospital has 231 licensed beds and serves a nine-county region in southeast Georgia. The hospital employs more than 1,450 staff. Health care insurance plans currently accepted at the hospital continue to be accepted at Mayo Clinic Health System.
“What this means for our patients and for our community is that specialty by specialty, department by department, we are bringing to our neighborhood the expertise, services and practices of Mayo Clinic,” says Robert Trimm, chief administrative officer at Mayo Clinic Health System’s location in Waycross. “The professional care won’t change now that Satilla Regional Medical Center has joined Mayo Clinic Health System. You can continue to see your trusted local doctor and also tap into the expertise of Mayo Clinic.”
The integration between the former Satilla Regional Medical Center and Mayo Clinic Health System has been in the works for more than two years. In addition to the new signage, other noticeable changes include new staff name badges and advertising and marketing materials, as well as the way staff answer the telephone. The advertising campaign will explain the new name and the hospital’s commitment to patient care. More changes will be completed in phases.
