Heart attacks, falls bring many hunters to the emergency room
Along with misfired rifle shots, common medical emergencies involving hunters include heart attacks, back injuries and broken bones. By following certain safety precautions, however, hunters can prevent injuries and avoid a trip to the emergency room, says a physician who enjoys the hobby himself.

Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross has been named to the Georgia Hospital Association’s (GHA) Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) Core Measures Honor Roll. The health system is one of only 18 hospitals in Georgia to be placed in the Presidential category, one of the highest on the list. The honor roll is based on clinical data provided by the federal Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS), which administers the nation’s Medicare and Medicaid programs. The data was collected from January 2011 to December 2011.

New signs will be unveiled as the former Satilla Regional Medical Center continues its transition from Satilla to “Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross.” Earlier this year, Satilla Health Services, Inc., parent company of Satilla Regional Medical Center, joined the Jacksonville campus of Mayo Clinic. On May 1, hospital leaders will host a ceremony and reception to unveil the main new sign and to share thoughts with the community and employees about the latest evolution of the hospital. The unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner parking lot on Tebeau Street at 5 p.m.
