Nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the 3rd med/surg area. These classes can include new grads, former nurses returning to nursing, nurses transferring from other nursing units within the hospital and from other hospitals.
Learning involves an independent interactive computerized learning program (ECCO), intertwining lectures with case studies, interpreting cardiac rhythms on real patients on cardiac monitors. Additional one day classes for ICU nurses include mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic pressure monitoring, trauma (ICU, ER) and intra-aortic balloon pumps. PTCA (percutaneous coronary transluminal angioplasty) class is for both ICU and 3rd med/surg.
ICU nurses: Focus on cardiac, pulmonary, neuro, GI, renal, hematologic, endocrine and multisystem – one day per week for 15 weeks plus additional one day classes as described above.
3rd med/surg nurses: Focus on cardiac and pulmonary one day per week for nine weeks plus PTCA class.
ECCO is combined with unit preceptor training to enhance the learning process. Our goal is to build confidence in the nurse’s assessment skills, applying knowledge gained and providing direction for meeting the needs of the customer in a safe and timely fashion.
