Anticoagulation

Mayo Clinic Health System in Lake City Anticoagulation Clinic is utilized by patients with various conditions such as atrial fibrillation, artificial heart valves, history of serious blood clots, clotting disorders or is high risk for clotting related to recent surgery or immobility.

Anticoagulant medications help prevent the formation of blood clots by increasing the time it takes a blood clot to form. Once a patient begins this medication, such as the prescription drug Warfarin, also known by the brand name Coumadin, they need to have their blood analyzed frequently.

Patients meet with a Mayo Clinic Health System family Nurse Practitioner for their anticoagulation therapy. This will include a finger stick blood testing to monitor/adjust medication dosages and education regarding your medication, diet and exercise.
