Strength and Conditioning

Physical therapists apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, designed to implement safe and effective strength training. They also provide conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. These therapists consult with and refer athletes to other professionals when appropriate.

Therapists work with athletes to accomplish a number of goals including:

  • Developing a strengthening program with progression towards increasing sport specific strength and endurance
  • Education regarding injury prevention and safety during participation in sporting activity
  • Formulate a training schedule with a focus of steady development and retention of skills and strength in the off-season
  • Address any questions and concerns that may arise during sports participation.
