Surgery: Procedures

The General Surgery department performs the following surgical procedures:

  • Adrenal (open and laparoscopic) surgery
  • Gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic and open)
  • Hernia Surgery (open and laparoscopic) Umbilical, Inguinal, Ventral, and Incisional
  • Breast Surgery (biopsy, lumpectomy, lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy, mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, including breast cancer options and breast conservation). See the Center for Breast Care for more information.
  • Carpel Tunnel surgery
  • Colon and Rectal Surgery (open and laparoscopic) Hemorrhoid surgery, anal fissure, anal fistula, pilonidal cyst, rectal prolapse, colostomy, ileostomy, colectomy, bowel resections and colonoscopy
  • Hemodialysis Fistula
  • Trauma Surgery
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) surgery (open & laparoscopic)
  • Some diagnostic liver and pancreatic surgeries
  • Stomach surgery (gastric resections)
  • Appendectomy (open & laparoscopic)
  • Thyroid/parathyroid surgery
  • Splenectomy (open & laparoscopic)
  • Central Venous Access (for chemotherapy & dialysis)
  • Varicose Vein Surgery - Vein stripping or venous closure (a minimally invasive technique)
  • Peripheral Vascular & Arterial Surgery including endovascular & peripheral bypass surgery
  • Carotid artery stenosis surgery/stenting
  • Abdominal aneurysm surgery
  • Feeding tubes (gastrostomy tube and PEG tubes)
  • Non-cardiac thoracic surgery (open and thoracoscopic lung surgery)
  • Specialized hand surgeries and plastic surgeries

Minimally invasive procedures like the removal of skin lesions, moles, soft tissue masses, etc. can be completed in the clinic setting. We do not perform bariatric or cardiac surgery in La Crosse. These services are available from our partners at other Mayo Clinic Health System locations or Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
