The Youth Dragon Boat Program, a part of the Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival, is a great way for kids between the ages of 11 to 18 years to engage in healthy physical activity and enhance teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills such as communication, problem solving, responsibility and accountability.
The program is offered during the summer, starting at the end of June or early July. The best part is, it’s FREE! Youth will attend a pre-race practice led by a certified dragon boat coach and compete in a youth race as part of the Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival on Friday, July 14. All equipment will be provided.
Individuals: If you are between the ages of 11-18 years, are interested in paddling a dragon boat, but are not already part of a youth team, please complete this form to participate. We will assign you to a team.
Teams: If you already have a group organized (up to 20 paddlers), please register your team here.
The deadline for registering in the Youth program is June 1, 2017.
We are fortunate to have Boys & Girls Club members participate in the Youth Dragon Boat Program. Our kids benefit tremendously from this unique program. For many of them it was the highlight of their summer. Lori and her team are energetic and passionate teachers of the sport. Most importantly, they focus on dedication, teamwork, persistence, leadership and self-confidence. Our Club kids are looking forward to another great summer on the water!

I did the Youth Dragon Boat Program for a fun way to earn volunteer hours for school. I had a ton of fun doing it, and I met a bunch of great people. This sport definitely lifted my spirits up, as well as my leadership skills. This sport teaches you so much about teamwork and how much of it is a team effort, and not individual. Whether you’ve done it before or not, it’s super easy and fun!
