Saturday, July 5, 2014 – Riverside Park – La Crosse, Wisconsin
The Franciscan Healthcare Center for Breast Care will host the Coulee Region’s only dragon boat race on Saturday, July 5, 2014 in conjunction with Riverfest.
The Big Blue Dragon Boat race is a fresh and exciting event promoting community health and teamwork while also raising awareness of breast cancer. Teams will race head to head on the Mississippi River along Riverside Park.
This year's race includes five divisions:
- Corporate (minimum of 8 women per team)
- Mixed (minimum of 8 women per team)
- Breast Cancer Survivors/Supporters (minimum of 10 survivors per team)
- All Cancer Survivors/Supporters (minimum of 10 survivors per team)
The community’s collective paddle power will support the Center for Breast Care at Mayo Clinic Health System - Franciscan Healthcare. Area women served by programs on breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship will benefit from the funds raised.
This year will feature traditional Hong Kong-style boats. The boats are designed for 20 paddlers and 1 drummer. Racing begins at 8 a.m. and will end by 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies will follow the completion of time trials, and a breast cancer survivor recognition ceremony will occur mid-afternoon.
Team registration has closed for the 2014 Big Blue Dragon Boat Race. Thank you to all the teams that have registered. For everyone, please join us in Riverside Park on July 5 for a day of inspiration and excitement.
