Safety is a priority in the unit. To ensure all patients and visitors are safe, there are specific rules and guidelines that must be followed. Listed below are a few of the rules and guidelines:
All patients and visitors must pass through the metal detector.
All personal belongings are searched upon admission and at all times when a visitor brings in something new. Staff will itemize all belongings and will only allow certain items into the patient’s room.
Patients are encouraged to leave their valuables and medications at home. A list of current medications must be provided to the staff.
Patients are not allowed into another patient’s room.
Physical or violent behavior toward oneself or others is not allowed. Staff will assist the patient in controlling these behaviors through proper treatment techniques. Verbal abuse, swearing and foul language are not allowed.
Clothing, television programs and reading materials with sexually explicit or violent content are prohibited.
Battery-operated radios (without cords) may be permitted at approved times. IPODs, MP3 players and CD players with headphones may also be permitted at approved times based on the patient’s status and condition, must be operated in view of staff and may not be kept in the patient’s room.
Meal trays are handed or carried to the patient at each meal. All dishes and silverware are accounted for by staff.
No outside food or drink is allowed.
All patient mail received in the unit must be opened in the presence of a staff member.
