The Anticoagulation Clinic (ACC) monitors patients who are receiving anticoagulation drug therapy, such as warfarin (Coumadin® or Jantoven®).  Anticoagulants reduce the blood’s ability to form clots and are an important treatment regimen for patients with atrial fibrillation, mechanical valves, hereditary disorders, blood clots or history of blood clots.  ACC manages patients on warfarin who are referred by their primary care physician or cardiologist.

The ACC is operated by clinic nursing in collaboration with Mayo Clinic Health System inpatient pharmacists.  In Austin, the ACC is located on the first floor of the clinic. Services include Warfarin management and perioperative bridging via protocols. The ACC’s goal is to provide prevention and treatment of thromboembolism while minimizing complications of anticoagulation therapy.
