Howard Schumaker, MD, emergency medicine physician at Mayo Clinic Health System in Sparta, has been named Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
The academic appointment recognizes Dr. Schumaker’s commitment to medical education across all levels of learners. “Dr. Schumaker has shared his medical knowledge and experience with a countless number of students throughout his career,” said Timothy Johnson, MD, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare. “His students have included paramedics, nurses, resident physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, military medics and combat life savers. He also makes time for high school and college students to job shadow with him.”
In addition to a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Schumaker also has fellowships in Family Medicine and Wilderness Medicine and training in Tactical Emergency Medicine. Dr. Schumaker received the “Outstanding Clinical Educator Award” from the Mayo School of Health Sciences for 2009 and 2011.
