RED WING, Minn. — John Knoedler, M.D., a urologist, recently joined the team of Surgical Services providers at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.
With Dr. Knoedler on staff, the medical center now offers Urology services four days a week for adults with diseases of the urinary tract, organs including kidney and bladder, and the male reproductive system. This will make it more convenient for patients from Red Wing and surrounding communities to access specialty care close to home.
Dr. Knoedler says he has special interest in surgical and medical management of kidney stones, enlarged prostate, and minimally invasive management of urologic cancers including kidney, bladder and prostate.
“I really enjoy getting to know my patients and developing a strong trust,” says Dr. Knoedler. “I use evidence-based approach to helping my patients and really encourage them to be part of the decision making.”
Dr. Knoedler obtained his medical doctor degree at the College of Medicine, Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He completed a general surgery internship, Urology residency and a fellowship in minimally invasive urologic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He also has an undergraduate degree from Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Dr. Knoedler says physician family members inspired him to pursue medicine. He chose Urology because it offers him a chance to do small inpatient procedures as well as larger surgeries, and he can help with acute episodes in addition to management of ongoing issues.
Dr. Knoedler grew up in the Twin Cities area, and he’s happy to be back closer to family and friends. He and his wife, Meghan, have two sons, August (19 months) and Pierce (8 weeks). Their hobbies include biking, downhill and cross country skiing, golf and time on the water.
