RED WING, Minn. — A new certified nurse-midwife recently joined the team of women’s health providers at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.

Glenda Pinkham, C.N.M., recently began practicing in Red Wing. She earned her Master of Nursing degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Pinkham has over 22 years of working in midwifery and enjoys the full spectrum of OB-GYN and women’s health care, including family planning and preconception, labor and delivery, prenatal and postpartum care, gynecological exams, nutrition and mental health.

Midwifery care is a new service offered in Red Wing and provides an option for women looking for a low risk and natural approach to pregnancy and delivery. Although there are midwives that do home deliveries, Pinkham will only perform deliveries at the hospital in Red Wing.

The opportunity to support women in their personal choices related to childbirth is what attracted Pinkham to Obstetrics and Gynecology, and, specifically, midwifery services.

“I am eager to get to know my patients and learn more about their desires, challenges, concerns and joys,” says Pinkham. “Providing midwifery care is about building trusting relationships with my patients, which allows me to help them commit to low intervention during labor and delivery.”

Along with the opportunity to build a midwifery program in Red Wing, Pinkham’s motivation to move to the Red Wing area was to get closer to her family. She and her husband have four grown sons living in various locations in the United States, one of which lives with his family in the Twin Cities area. Pinkham is looking forward to hiking the trails and other outdoor activities that Minnesota has to offer.
