Let's Get Ready to Ramble

May 12, 2016

RED WING, Minn. — Are you ready to walk, run and have some fun?  Make physical activity a priority for you and your family this summer. Mayo Clinic Health System and the Red Wing Family YMCA encourage the community to get active together by participating in Get Ready to Ramble. This free 9-week program prepares participants for the River City Ramble, a 5K walk/run, 2-mile walk and a kids’ fun run on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 and helps make physical activity a part of your everyday life.

During Get Ready to Ramble, Mayo Clinic Health System athletic trainer Kathy Sheehan, and Jenna Seeley, a personal trainer from the YMCA, will provide support and guidance. They have developed training programs that will meet you where you are physically – to get you started if you have never been physically active or improve your performance if you’re a regular exerciser or runner.

The kick-off for Get Ready to Ramble is Monday, May 23 at 5:15 p.m. at Central Park Band Shell in Red Wing. A brief run/walk will follow. The weekly training sessions start Monday, June 6 at Central Park Band Shell. New to the program this year will be separate sessions offered to runners and walkers. Runners will meet at 11:30 a.m. and the walkers will meet at 5:15 p.m. Guest speakers will be presenting at the start of the walkers’ session followed by a group walk. A healthy snack will be provided each week.

Get Ready to Ramble participants are encouraged to participate in scheduled walk/runs and educational sessions. “All members of our communities have the opportunity to create and maintain healthy life-long habits by participating in Get Ready to Ramble,” says Tom Witt, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing. “Incorporating physical activity into your daily routine now will prepare you for the River City Ramble on Aug. 6.”

The River City Ramble is an annual event sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System and the Red Wing Family YMCA. The River City Ramble is a fundraiser that supports youth scholarships for the Red Wing Family YMCA, allowing children the opportunity to participate in healthy activities throughout the year.

Take that healthy step toward being active this summer.
