Mayo Clinic Health System introduces Hope grief support group

May 30, 2012

Mayo Clinic Health System introduces “Hope,” a grief support group for women who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group will meet at St. John Baptist Church in the John Paul II meeting room, 632 S. Broad St., Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. beginning June 5.

“Hope” is led by hospice volunteers Marlene Hunt and Mary Kelly, both of whom have experienced the loss of a spouse. Each week the meetings will have a different topic of discussion and focus on a 12-step grieving process. A year-long meditation book will also be provided.

“The group meetings present opportunities for participants to learn about grief, share personal experiences and find hope and healing,” says Jeanne Atkinson, bereavement coordinator at Mayo Clinic Health System. “Support and friendship are important when you have experienced loss.”

No registration is necessary for “Hope,” and the meetings are open to all women who have experienced the loss of a loved one. For more information, please call the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice Department at 507-385-2989 or 800-327-3721, ext. 2989 (toll-free).
