Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont welcomes first baby of new year

FAIRMONT, Minn., January 3, 2012 –

Mayo Clinic Health System today announced the birth of the first baby of the year in its BirthPlace.

Landon John Thoeny, a baby boy, was born at 2:31 a.m. on New Year’s Day to Kylie Behrends and Tyler Thoeny in Fairmont. Landon weighed 7 pounds, 7.2 ounces and was 18.9 inches long. Landon has a two-year-old sister and a three-year-old brother.

“At Mayo Clinic Health System, our focus is always on delivering the best in patient care -- and today was no exception with the birth of little Landon,” said Phyllis Hartwig, manager of the BirthPlace. “On New Year’s Day, it’s an extra dose of excitement to welcome a new life into the Fairmont community as we celebrate new beginnings worldwide.”

There were 272 babies born at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont in 2011. That compares with 284 births at the medical center in 2010. The highest total since the organization began keeping records occurred in 2005, with 339 births that year.

According to BabyNames.com, the most popular names of babies born in the United States in 2011 were Charlotte, Sophia and Amelia for girls and Liam, Noah and Aiden for boys.
