EAU CLAIRE, Wis. —Psychiatrist George Melnyk, M.D., recently joined the Behavioral Health Department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Melnyk also will provide patient care at Mayo Clinic Health System – Red Cedar in Menomonie one day a week.
Dr. Melnyk earned his medical degree from the University of Perpetual Help College of Medicine in the Philippines. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at New York Medical College. He received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Melnyk has been practicing psychiatry for 28 years. For the past 14 years, he worked at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Melnyk’s subspecialty interests are in addiction medicine, mood disorders, psychopharmacology and pain medicine.
“Psychiatry is a challenging specialty,” says Dr. Melnyk. “It is a wonderful feeling to see a patient get well, knowing that I helped make a difference.”
In his free time, Dr. Melnyk enjoys spending time with his wife and family, fishing, marksmanship, playing billiards, reading, listening to classical rock music and spending time with his pets. He also speaks Filipino and Ukrainian, and understands several Slavic languages.
