EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Oliver Thomas Mitchell leapt at his chance to be a leap year baby. The baby boy arrived more than a week before his due date at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire on Feb. 29.
Born at 11:47 a.m., Oliver weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.
His parents, Caitlin and Brandon Mitchell, realized as they were heading to the hospital that they were having a leap year baby.
“We’ll let him decide if he wants to celebrate his birthday on Feb. 28 or March 1 on nonleap years,” says proud dad Brandon.
“Or we’ll let him celebrate two birthdays each year,” says smiling mom Caitlin.
Oliver is the Bloomer couple’s first child.
