EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — James Peng, M.D., recently joined the Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire

Dr. Peng earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

He is board-certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic Health System, he practiced at Kaiser Permanente in California and was an assistant professor of emergency medicine at New York University School of Medicine.

“I went into emergency medicine because the practice allows me to care for a wide range of patients, and I especially enjoy the resuscitation of the critically ill when they first present for care,” says Dr. Peng. “As I tell many of my patients: ‘I hope to never see you as a patient in the Emergency Department, but if I do, I will treat you like my friend or family member.’”

Dr. Peng’s professional interests include disaster response and management; process and quality improvement; medical education; and wilderness medicine. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. During his free time, Dr. Peng enjoys mountaineering, rock climbing, backpacking, biking, chess, reading, food and travel. He also is learning to play the piano.
