Free car seat checks offered in Northwest Wisconsin

September 06, 2016

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –– It’s estimated up to 75 percent of all car seats are improperly installed. Vehicle accidents also are the leading cause of death among children in the United States.

Mayo Clinic Health System and Chippewa Valley Technical College are partnering to offer free car seat inspections this fall.

Car seats will be checked for proper size and installation, as well as possible recalls. Learn about correct use of car seats and ensure proper seat belt fit for older children. Expectant parents also are welcome. Allow 30 minutes per car seat.

“As we get into a back-to-school routine and start spending more time transporting our children to school and other activities, it’s a good time to also put safety first,” says Kim Strasburg, Mayo Clinic Health System Trauma Center. “A quick car seat check can give you peace of mind and potentially save a life.”

Car seat checks will be conducted by a certified car seat technician and take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, and also from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sat., Oct. 8, at Chippewa Valley Technical College West Campus, Emergency Services Education Center, 3623 Campus Road, Eau Claire.

Registration is not required. For more information call 715-838-3180, or visit Eau Claire's Classes & Events page.
