Emmett Henry Deneys was born at 3:38 p.m. Jan. 1, 2016, the first baby of the new year at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. His parents are Brittany and Kyle Deneys of Menomonie.EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Emmett Henry Deneys’ due date was Jan. 21, but the baby boy was ready to make his debut a few weeks ahead of schedule at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

Born at 3:38 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, Emmett weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces and was 18 inches long.

His mom, Brittany Deneys, didn’t expect she’d give birth on New Year’s Day, so it came as a bit of a shock when her water broke.

After 19 hours of labor, Brittany gave birth to her son on the first day of 2016.

“He definitely came on his own time,” says a laughing Brittany. “He didn’t pay attention to my birth plan at all.”

“I’m just so excited and happy he’s finally here,” says dad, Kyle Deneys.

Emmett is the Menomonie couple’s first child.
