Cardiovascular surgeons Robert Wiechmann, M.D., and Thomas Carmody, M.D., will begin performing heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., in addition to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
The collaboration will help share surgical capabilities and processes, and build working relationships among colleagues across the Mayo Clinic enterprise to better serve patients.
“Specialists from Rochester have served in outreach positions at Mayo Clinic Health System locations for years, but this partnership demonstrates the recognition of excellent specialty care throughout the system,” says Brian Whited, M.D., vice chair of operations for Mayo Clinic Health System Administration. “All involved say this signifies a two-way collaboration in the truest sense of the word.”
Dr. Wiechmann recently was granted operating privileges at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and Dr. Carmody is in the process of being credentialed in Minnesota. They will provide coverage in Rochester as needed.
“We look forward to working directly with the surgeons in Rochester,” says Dr. Wiechmann. “The convergence of programs allows us to collaborate on ideas and procedures.”
