CANNON FALLS, Minn. — There’s a flurry of activity at the new medical center construction site on the south side of Cannon Falls. After 16 months of construction, contractors are wrapping up the finishing touches on the new facility for Mayo Clinic Health System.
The new building will be ready in time for a July 25, 2014 open house event. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. and tours from 3-7 p.m. In addition to tours, the event will include free food, live music, activities for kids, and local emergency response vehicles. The Mayo One helicopter will also be on site for viewing and exploring starting at 4 p.m.
The 92,000 square-foot facility including the clinic, hospital and emergency department is located at 32021 County 24 Boulevard. Limited parking will be available on site. Shuttle buses will be available to bring interested attendees from the Cannon Falls High School parking lot to the new medical center and back free of charge. The shuttle service will run from 1:30 -7:30 p.m.
The new clinic will open August 4, 2014. The hospital and emergency department will begin operating in the new building August 7, 2014.
Mayo Clinic Health System broke ground on the new medical center in March, 2013. Designed to better meet patient needs, the new facility will replace the current 1958 building. Patients and visitors can expect an improved overall experience beyond the continued presence of dependable, high-quality health care. The new facility has three times more space than the previous one allowing Mayo Clinic Health System to expand primary and specialty services, improve privacy and add new technology. Health care teams will be able to collaborate more easily to meet patient needs.
