Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin announces extended clinic hours for pediatric patients

July 08, 2015

AUSTIN, MN — If your child has a cold or needs a yearly well-child visit, you no longer need to take off time during the workday to get your child to a clinic appointment as Pediatrics will be piloting an extended hours clinic until 6:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. The extended hours clinic pilot will begin Wednesday, July 15, and run through mid-November 2015.

Jenna Wheeler, M.D., Pediatrics at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, has extended clinic appointments from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and Sarah Scherger, M.D., Pediatrics at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, has extended clinic appointments from 8 a.m. through 6:45 p.m., Wednesday through Friday. According to Dr. Scherger, these extended hours are to meet patient demands and provide convenience of care.

“With children in school and often times both parents working, we are seeing an increased need for appointments after 3 p.m.,” says Sarah Scherger, M.D., pediatrician at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin. “Trialing an extended hours clinic allows us to learn the potential impact (positive and negative) to accessing care for children. This is just another way for us to meet our patients health care needs when and where they want it.”

To schedule an appointment with Drs. Scherger or Wheeler, or another Pediatrics Department provider, call Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin’s appointment number at 507-433-8758.
