New Therapy Services to Be Provided in Arcadia

Mayo Clinic Health System is pleased to announce that Achieve Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, based in Holmen, will be providing therapy services to the residents of its Arcadia nursing home. In addition,Achieve will offer outpatient therapy services to the community.

Services will be provided in a combined 2,000+ square-foot space in the lower level of the current nursing facility. Mayo Clinic Health System will remodel the space to accommodate the inpatient services and allow for an outpatient entrance with reception area through what was previously the emergency room entrance. Achieve expects to initially employ six professionals in Arcadia which include Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists and Assistants. Services are planned to commence on August 1, 2011.

John Nemec, vice president for regional practices for Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse said, “Our contract with Achieve allows us to draw on their extensive expertise in rehab services and compliance for our nursing home as well as community residents. This is good news for the people of Arcadia. We plan to continue our reinvestment in our outpatient practice. This is a solid first step.”

Bert Hodous, M.D., medical director for Mayo Clinic Health System in Arcadia, said, “Therapy is a huge part of the health care we would like to provide locally. In the clinic we talk about what needs to be done; in therapy they then DO it. Achieve has a track record of being innovative and thorough—one of the best services in our region. This is an important gain for health care in our community.”

Stefanie McCoy, one of the owners of Achieve, said, “We are looking forward to working within the community of Arcadia. We have extensive experience in both skilled nursing facilities and outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine practice settings. Our overall goal in this integrated model is to promote health and wellness throughout the lifespan. We will be able to provide care for adolescents all the way through older adults. As we become established, we plan to include adjunct services such as massage and personal training for long term personal health goals.”

Services to be offered at the Arcadia location include:

  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Orthopedic injury care
  • Sports Medicine/Injury care and prevention
  • Total joint replacement or other postoperative joint surgery rehabilitation
  • Back and neck pain relief
  • Custom fit orthotics
  • Lymphedema management
  • Post-stroke and other neurological disorder treatment
  • Vestibular rehabilitation (dizziness, falls and balance disorders)
  • Care for medically complex patients
  • Compensatory cognitive retraining for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia diagnoses
